Yes, one year it's been. At around this time one year ago, three Simple Machines Customizers came together in a chat room and the idea of doing a big mod together was brought up.
When it was first mentioned, I don't think any of us could possibly have expected just how big this mod would be. But here we are now, far beyond 10,000 lines of code and hours of hard and fun work later, with SimpleDesk. And although things might now have ended up just as we planned them, I am still happy for what we have achieved, and I wish you all a very happy year to come. :)

News and Announcements / So what's actually in SimpleDesk 1.1?

Since we started to develop the second version of SimpleDesk, 1.1, back in early April just after our first public release, we posted a list of the new features and improvements that would be included in the updated package.
However, since that was posted, many changes have taken place in the development of SimpleDesk, resulting in the addition and removal of some of those points.
Therefor, I present to you the updated list of features and updates in SimpleDesk 1.1, whose codename is yet to be revealed ;)

Comparing this list to the old one, we see a few changes:

* Split/merge tickets, support forum search, as well as the integrated help area are three features that have been pushed to a later version since we felt that they were not our main priority right now.
* Maintenance mode has been introduced. This allows you to shut down the helpdesk for everyone but administrators so that any kind of maintenance can be carried out while no users are browsing the helpdesk, similarly to SMF's own function with the same name.
* The addition of a plugin system. This system allows SimpleDesk to be seamlessly extended on its own, with the help of "plugins" that take advantage of several integration hooks that have been added to the code.
Once we've released SimpleDesk 1.1 we'll be documenting these functions and posting guides on how they work, so that modders and other interested users can start using them as they like. The plugin system will also be heavily extended upon in the near future, allowing SimpleDesk to be more and more customizable as we go along.

We are very excited about these changes, and although it's been a long time since we first introduced this version, we hope that once it's out you'll be able to enjoy it as much as we have done while working on it.
So stick around - SimpleDesk 1.1 is not far away. You can have a look at our bug tracker and the SVN stats for the latest news on what's going on behind the scenes right now.

Dear community,

Due to some recent events, mostly related to life outside of the Internet, development of SimpleDesk has seriously slowed down.
In order to secure the future of this project, we are now looking for capable programmers with experience in modding SMF, who are interested in developing SimpleDesk 1.1 and future versions of the software.

If you love SimpleDesk and if you are an experienced PHP programmer, head over to our development page and fill out the application form found there, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Dear users of SimpleDesk,

As you may or may not have noticed, there has been a recent lack of public updates about SimpleDesk 1.1.
This is in large part due to the departure of our lead developer, as well as a lack of time and motivation among the members of our team.

Since the beginning of this project we've laid out a path for SimpleDesk's future, but during the development of 1.1, we started to take several different side tracks, adding new features and improvements that we didn't originally intend.
This leads to 1.1 being a much change version than we originally intended, and there are of course both good and bad sides to that fact.

Due to lack of motivation (related to real life), which I already mentioned, I partially left the project during the course of the latest version, leaving Arantor basically alone for that whole time.
I am now trying to get back on track, so that SimpleDesk may once again flourish. Bᵃ from the marketing team has kindly offered to help me out with development which means that I am not fully alone.
And I'd like to thank all of our beta testers and of course you users who have patiently held on to us during these tough times.

What I'm trying to say is though SimpleDesk is behind schedule (Our original release date for 1.1 was the 1st of July, I won't keep that a secret), and though we lost our biggest contributor, all is not lost.
We're looking forward to a public release within the coming couple of months. And oh, new promotional graphics, of course! ;D

SimpleDesk Team Blog / New promotional wallpaper!

It's been a while since our last blog post, not to mention since we last released a new promotional graphic.
I've been playing around in Photoshop for some time, experimenting with different ideas and techniques, and today I'd like to show to you one of the resulting wallpapers.
This is a typography style wallpaper with some grungy textures. For the SimpleDesk checkmark, I copied random parts of SimpleDesk's core code.

Here's the result. As I said, this is just one of the many ideas I've been cracking on behind the scenes. Expect more cool stuff soon!

Today we have experienced a long downtime that lasted for several hours. We do not yet know the cause but it was probably caused by a power failure at the data center. Just as a headsup, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Archived News / Sneak Peek IV: The Return of the Screenshots

After the release of SimpleDesk 1.0 beta to our Beta Testing team, we have been busy fixing the bugs and suggestions they have provided for us.
Not much has changed layout-wise since the last sneak peek, we've mostly been working on the core functionality of SimpleDesk rather than the templates, but there have been some small changes.

However, I won't bother letting you throw your eyes at the main helpdesk yet again. This time, I'd like to introduce you to the SimpleDesk Administration Panel, which - except the action log - we have not yet shown to you eager fans.
Since this is all new to you, there's not much to say about changes, like Arantor did last time, however I'd like to point out the slight update of the action log interface.

I also haven't include any custom themes, only Curve and Core. Soon, very soon, you'll be able to play with it on custom themes yourselves. :)

So here we go, starting with the Curve theme.

The main ACP, with mod information and news.
The options page, with SimpleDesk settings.
The slightly updated action log.
Our new support section.

Before I show you Core, let me go through these four pages.
The first one if of course the main administration panel for SimpleDesk. This is where you will be notified when new versions are released, read our latest news and updates and see information about your mod installation.
This page also contains a list of the people who made SimpleDesk possible.

The second picture is one of our three settings pages (all of which are gathered under an 'Options' tab), namely the display options.
This is where you can change a few settings affecting the basic look of SimpleDesk, such as enabling avatars and changing the navigation style used in tickets.

The third picture is our action log, which you have seen before. This now has an option to empty out the log and remove all entries at once. Only entries older than 24 hours can be deleted.
Of course, you can still delete entries individually, also with the 24 hour wait.

The fourth and last picture features our brand new support section. This section contains a simple form, which when submitted will automatically send you back to this website and post a support request in our forum for you.
This requires you to be logged in on our site.

Now I'll finish this little post off by showing you the same pages, in the Core theme.
Remember that we are mainly working on Curve, so there are some very tiny 'bugs' in the Core view - nothing big, however.


That is basically all from me today. I'm looking forward to the release of this modification, which will be very, very, soon.
Now I'm going to run off and make sure there are no more pesky little bugs hiding somewhere. Thanks for reading, and feel free to give us comments on the screenshots. :)

As we move into our second month of active development, the SimpleDesk team would proudly like to present our new site and forum theme, Enkelbor. In keeping with the philosophy of Curve, Enkelbor presents a clean, modern interface for all to enjoy. Most importantly, it gives our site a distinctive look and feel. We are really excited about this update and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Additionally, we would also like to unveil a new section of our site, Promote SimpleDesk. Here, you will find many different ways to help us spread the word. As previously announced, we are releasing a couple of signature images and wallpapers in various sizes. We are also making all of our progress indicators available, as well.

We hope you enjoy the new theme and promotional graphics! Oh, and don't wander too far. We have more exciting things planned for the near future!

Edit: We were asked what the name of "Enkelbor" means.
Enkelbor is a contraction of a bad Swedish translation of "Simple Desk".
Simple Desk in Swedish is Enkelt Bord, if you translate without knowing that it's actually a helpdesk, which you would never translate like that.
Enkelt Bord became Enkelbor.
Why Swedish? I, the designer, am from Sweden. :)
