Custom Field Request

If I wanted a custom field defined as a date, is there a field type available?  Would that come from SMF or would that need to be specific for SD?

There's no date type custom field at this time. 
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.
