Title: Zend Certified Engineer
Post by: Gruffen on June 16, 2010, 08:10:15 PM
I'm just curious.

I'm not one of these, and looking over the list of requirements, there are one or two areas I'm not quite so hot on, but because I don't use them regularly if at all (e.g. SimpleXML, SOAP, Xpath, some subtleties in OOP)

What I'm curious to know is whether anyone here is a ZCE, knows anyone who is, and whether they think it's worth the time/effort in me doing the certification.

EDIT: http://www.zend.com/services/certification/php-5-certification/ is what the certification covers.

Like with my previous IT qualification (UK 'A' Level Computing), I'm not expecting to learn too much to actually get the qualification, at most formalising what I already know.

OK, an update on this.

Yes, I am taking ZCE.

I've done one mock exam, and it seems I'd pass, even without reading the study guide. It is interesting to note what areas I'd fail on, but not surprising; I haven't used MySQLi or PDO before, I generally avoid using the streams system, and I tend to avoid functions by reference, which are the principle areas I fell down on.

9 more mocks to go, hoping to have a 'pass' in each area before booking the actual exam.
