Title: Usergroup display
Post by: Gruffen on February 16, 2010, 08:36:20 AM
After a comment about it (here (http://www.smf-friends.org/index.php?topic=1117.0)) that the group legend is too wide, we realised that in fact this is common to any forum with a decent sized number of groups - and it is actually fairly ugly at times.

So, taking the suggestion given, we thought we'd try it here. We'll see how it goes, if it works out, we'll look at republishing it as 'an official small mod' for you.

Nope, I'm referring to the board index. Normally SMF would list every one of the groups that's applicable at the bottom, now it only lists the legend for groups that have one or more visible users online.

As per the screenshots, _normal is what SMF 2.0 RC2 does, _applied is what the mod changes it to.

Ah, I see what you did there. Simple to set up too, though it would be nice if you made a mod of it or displayed the edits for those that don't want to bother screwing around dumping the variable and finding which key to use.

Looks good :) This seems like something the legend should do by default heh.

We HAVE made a mod of it; all changes to the SMF installation here should be done via mod packages for easy maintenance. I just wanted to get a little more feedback before I got it published through the SimpleDesk Team account on sm.org.

I just noticed, why are Beta Testers and QA colors the same?

Beta testing is a part of quality assurance. :)

Nope, testers are not SD team members.

No, but QA and BT are a similar function - BT is more for those who don't want to/don't have the time or energy to become full time members - remember, as this goes on, it's going to get busier...

But for the purpose of the Usergroup Display, it's kind of confusing to have two different membergroups with the same color. You're not sure who is BT and who is QA.

But I guess since it's the same job it's not like it matters. :P

You can always click on the membergroup to see who is part of it. :)

I would remove one or the other (from the legend).

XD Then whats the point of having the legend?

The legend lets you identify who is in what group - and yes, the colours probably do need looking at.

But clicking on the list lets you see who everyone in the group is, not just those online.

Ugh....I always misread things when i'm tired. I thought B was saying to click their name to see what membergroup they were in the profile.

Oops, sorry B. :-\

Beta testers are a "Child group" of QA one would say. So we get the same online color, but no tick in our badge.

Thats probably a poor discription however theirs a better on one our team page.

Any chance you could release the mod here, since SM are taking a long time to approve it?
Title: Re: Usergroup display
Post by: Gruffen on February 21, 2010, 07:22:21 AM
It's only been 4 days... normally takes longer than that for mod approvals.

I don't see the need to republish here - it'll be reviewed and approved in due course.

Well there is for connivence. If people find this site first before SMF (not sure why they would but, it could happen) it would just seem like a hassle to go into the SMF site and download the mod there, instead of just staying here and downloading it.

Yeah, it's only the difference of a few clicks, but i'm just trying to play Devil's Advocate here. ;)

It won't be added here before it's approved there in any case...

That said... you have given me another idea, which I'll discuss with the appropriate folks.

I don't know if it'll come to fruition, but it's certainly food for thought...
