SimpleDesk Team Blog / Homepage revised!
February 14, 2010, 03:50:49 PM
Our homepage was rather stricken of content before today, lacking the last push to make it look truly stunning.

Nas has spent a bit of time today working on some new concepts for the front page, and the first view of our project. Sporting some of our new screenshots, with a nice little slideshow.

What do you think?
SimpleDesk Team Blog / The error log mod!
February 13, 2010, 06:35:26 PM
SimpleDesk started life as a collaborative modification for SMF, focussing on a quality help desk. Soon it became a bigger project with its own site, structure and development environment. A lot of custom work has gone into the creation of this site and the project as a whole.

As we are a free project, and we are making little changes to SMF to make our lives easier, we decided along the way we will package them up and offer them to the community as a whole. While the little modifications we release will be truly small, they may help administrators or developers further enhance their project.

Our first little modification that we're releasing is our Error Log counter mod. In a very efficient and optimised way, this log counter will display how many entries are in the SMF error log. As you can see in the screenshots, this provides a quick way to find out, without needing to manually visit the page and look, helping reduce development time.

Support and information on this modification will be limited to the SimpleDesk site and will not be available at Our modification profile however will always provide the latest download version.

Site Comments / DNS Switchover

A while ago we had a little bit of DNS trouble, to combat this there will be some changes applied to our server to further support us in stability.

Today we are processing updates to our nameservers and their host records. There may be slight glitches across the move, but it shall be short and sweet.

The move has already started, and both sides have been transitioned to the new DNS setup. Its possible you may already be using it :)
General Discussion / Police Air Drones

Here in the UK, our fantastic police force are looking into air drones.

From Slashdot: was the best comment in the thread with:

QuoteAnd because it's Britain, there isn't much to worry about. The project will be delayed by 8 years, overrun its budget by about 12 Million GBP. They'll come up with a crap logo for it as they did for the Olympics, and within a few hours of launch, the drones will malfunction and start tasering trees; eventually the whole project will be scrapped for health and safety reasons, I mean, what if the tree falls on someone while it's being tasered?

News and Announcements / Presenting Simple Desk!
January 05, 2010, 07:22:05 PM
Welcome to the grand launch of Simple Desk!

Simple Desk is the creation of a "mega mod" for SMF, our goal is to bring a fully functional help desk solution to all users of SMF. Using the SMF framework as a basepoint for our work, we want to show how adaptable SMF can be when used to its full potential, and demonstrate correct coding procedures and style on a large scale.

The Simple Desk team was formed from volunteers from the Simple Machines Forum project, and morphed into its own separate entity to facilitate the creation of one of the best help desk solutions available for free. Simple Desk will be able to be run as part of SMF, or independently by shutting off the forum component.

In the coming weeks you will see feature lists, proof of concept screenshots and alpha test code being featured on this site. This is one of the biggest modification projects to hit the SMF ecosystem.
