I'm very pleased to announce that today we have published the 1.0 beta to our beta testing team!
1.0 beta is the result of the last 2 months development from SimpleDesk and contains all the basic functionality that we set out to add; rest assured, there is plenty more development to come from us, plenty more new features to add on for you.
This release isn't public because it's really the first time anyone outside the dev team is looking at it, commenting on it, testing it - there may be some hideous, unexpected bugs in it, for example.
What it does mean, though, is that 1.0 development for 'new' stuff is basically done from our perspective and that this phase is buff and polish for you guys, the users, and tracking down any bugs or unexpected things in the code.
We are going to be having a release candidate, the timing of which depends mostly on the study and use from the beta testers, and 1.0 final will appear after that.
We know you're anxious to get your hands on it - we're anxious to publish it, but we don't want to give you something with lots of bugs in it. Hopefully nothing huge will come out of beta testing and we'll be able to give you a quality product very, very soon :)
Then of course, we can start moving forward to 1.1 and the new goodies that come in that!
Note: our tracker currently says 96%, this will likely go down as the beta testers report bugs to us, and back up as we fix them!
Awesome! Thanks, Devs. :)
The Death Star will be completed on schedule.
Glad to hear that it is almost out there! :) Can't wait to try this, I hope it will be released soon. Keep it up, SD team!
It's A-W-E-S-O-M-E!! Can't wait to try it!!!! :D
This is truely great news, glad to see this product is getting somewhere!
Brilliant news! Beta testing is always my least favourite part of modding, especially when you realise you've made a stupid error in your code :P
Congratulations to the devs team.
Let us know what its like beta testers :)
Huzzah! The time has finally arrived! Great news, and congrats to the Devs. :D
I have a question; after the Beta Testers and the QA people check the SD 1.0, will it be out in the public directly? Or does it have to be approved by SMF first? :D

They don't need permission from SMF as they are not redistributing SMF, its a modification which you install via admin cp.
You only need written permission from SMF if you are re-releasing some of the SMF stuff.
OK, here's the deal.
It's an SMF mod, which means by definition it actually uses SMF code. In this particular case we do use a surprising amount of SMF code, both indirectly and directly (particularly around the attachments, but mostly because that interfaces fairly directly with SMF's attachment system)
The SMF license allows us to distribute the mod freely with that in mind.
We don't even have to submit it to the SMF mod site if we don't want to, however in the name of proper distribution we will be doing so, however note that it can/will take a while to be approved there.
The plan at this stage is to deal with the issues identified from the initial beta, and submit our first (and hopefully only) release candidate both back to QA/beta testers, as well as to the mod site.
This means another set of eyes get to check it over but realistically I expect it to be into 1.0 final published here and with 1.1 already in development by the time it gets approved there. The Cust. team is pretty busy at the moment, and to receive a mod with a combined total of over 9,000 lines of code (between PHP, HTML, SQL, Javascript and CSS) it'll take a while to review.

That sucks, meaning we need to wait for a longer time...:( But what to worry, it will be out soon. :) Keep it up anyway! lol.
When it's at 1.0 final, I don't see any reason why we won't have it available for download here!

Ofcourse, who wouldn't want his "product" to be stop from publishing, right? You just want to polish it and bug-free when its out. K, have a good day!
That's exactly it. I think all the main bugs are known and with solutions just waiting to be written, really.
Can't wait!! 8)
P.S.: If you need an italian translator (or another beta tester), I'm super-ready!!!!! :D ;)
i cant be beta tester coz i'm not runing a live SMF site but i can be Turkish translator too , i need some cool projects like SMF wo any idiot "translator" politicy
Where do we download the Beta?
shaiss,
This beta is only available to our beta testers. The public release of SimpleDesk is coming soon. :)

In addition to that ^^^, to check the current % of the development of SimpleDesk click HERE (http://www.simpledesk.net/about/promote/)
When this reaches 100%, a public release should be out.
Note: This % can go up/down frequently as beta testers and what not report bugs and as they get fixed. - So check it regularly.
How do we get involved and download the beta?
We only published it to our beta testing team, of which they dug in and found a number of issues which we've already fixed.
We're just getting the last big things sorted out so we can publish a release candidate shortly which we'll also submit to the Simple Machines Customization Team for approval at the same time, and assuming no major issues are found in that, we'll move to public release shortly thereafter.
So no more beta testers are needed then we can assume.
Actually we have still been recruiting testers after the release of this beta. Dismal Shadow, Treznax and KiLLuMiNaTi-7- for example. ;)
Yup, the more testers the better really :D
Indeed. We want to release a quality product, and the more people there are testing it, the bigger the chance that we actually do. :)
